French toast and fruit

Ingredients

  • 2 slices of bread (cinnamon raisin or whole wheat are great)
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ c. milk
  • ½ c. apple sauce (if you can get a fresh apple, ½ a sliced apple is even better!)
  • 1 Tbsp. raisins
  • 1 Tbsp. walnuts
  • Options: ½ tsp. cinnamon, ¼ tsp. nutmeg, 1 tsp. vanilla extract

Directions
Beat the egg well, add the milk and, if desired, the vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg and stir.

Pour the liquid mixture in a shallow bowl so you can dip each side of each piece of bread into it. Place the bread on a pan over medium heat. Use a bit of butter/margarine on the pan if it is not nonstick. Cook on both sides until lightly browned, probably 2 minutes each side.

When the bread is done and the pan is free, turn the heat down to low and add the apple sauce (or thin apple slices), walnuts and raisins. These will heat up in just a couple minutes and be ready to serve as a sauce on top of the French toast.
